how seven year old boys are kidnapped and forced to become soldiers in Uganda how millions of young girls are sold into the sex trade throughout the world. How generations of families become indentured in order to bring one person from India to the US. I mean, it was abolished 100 years ago, right?īatstone does a fantastic job of taking us, country by country, and showing us just exactly where and how the slave trade works in today's world. It's so much easier to stick our heads in a hole and pretend that all of this ugliness doesn't happen anymore. We don't want to know that the shoes we are wearing were made by children under horrific conditions and the food at our local restaurant is being prepared by slave labor. But, the material can at times be so brutal and incomprehensible. Not because it doesn't flow or it isn't well-organized, because it is very well-written. This is a book that everyone should read.
